Improvement of giant papillary vernal keratoconjunctivitis using homeopathic medicine: two cases
Resumo
Conventional treatment of papillary hypertrophy in vernal keratoconjunctivitis may be
associated with major damage, which might be attenuated by means of homeopathic
treatment. We report the results of the treatment of two cases of this disease, two boys
with vernal keratoconjunctivitis and unilateral shield ulcer and giant papillary
hypertrophy. Before the onset of homeopathic treatment, all conventional topical and
systemic medications were suspended. Homeopathic treatment was performed by
single dose administered per oral route. Patients evolved with improvement of the
corneal shield ulcer and significant decrease of papillary hypertrophy. The period of
regression was one year and three months in the first case and one year and eight
months in the second. We concluded that homeopathy can contribute to the treatment
of vernal keratoconjunctivitis with corneal shield ulcers and papillary hypertrophy and
that further studies are needed to better evaluate this contribution.
