Historical development of homeopathy as a medical specialty in Colombia

Resumo

The present article is a summary of several monographs that together reconstruct the process of professionalization of homeopathy in Bogotá, since its arrival to Colombia in 1835 until becoming a medical specialty. It focus on the continuous endeavors of the members of Luis G. Páez Institute along 70 years to make the Colombian government recognize homeopathy as a legal medical specialty. It is concluded that the process of professionalization of homeopathy is still in progress, and that its introduction in the university curriculum is a milestone in the historical development of homeopathy in Colombia.
